In a world that has been gifted with a science called Alchemy, one must understand the first law of equivilent exchange. In this story, two young boys turned alchemists try to play the part of God and end up paying for it with a long journey to get themselves back to normal.

The main character is Edward Elric, who nearly loses his little brother (Alphonse) in an accident. He saves his brother by binding his soul to a suit of armor to give it a body, in the process paying an arm and a leg (for real). They must embark on a journey to find a mysterious stone that will help them recover what they lost.
